Rental Terms and Conditions

Welcome aboard

Thank you for choosing VanLife Puglia. We’re happy to entrust you with one of our vintage vans so you can explore Puglia at your own pace.

This document contains the terms and conditions of your rental: we ask you to read it carefully as it contains important information about payments, responsibilities, and what to do in the event of unexpected events. If you have any questions, please contact us before your departure: we’re always available to clarify any matter.

Art. 1 – The vehicle

The rental vehicle will be identified at the time of booking with:

Make and model
License plate and vehicle identification number (VIN)
Mileage upon delivery

Art. 2 – Rental duration

The rental begins and ends on the dates and times agreed upon at the time of booking.

If you need to extend the rental period, please notify us in writing at least 24 hours before the return date. Extensions are only possible if the van is not already booked by other customers.

Art. 3 – Payment, security deposit

The rental fee includes 100 km per day. Payment is made in two installments:

50% upon booking
The balance is due 7 days before pick-up.

A security deposit of €600 (in cash or by bank transfer) will be required upon pick-up. This deposit covers any damage, fines, penalties, or unexpected extra costs. It will be refunded at the end of the rental, less any outstanding amounts.

Art. 4 – Delivery and return

Upon delivery, the van will be in perfect condition: full of fuel, clean inside, and with a full fresh water tank. We ask that you return it in the same condition.

Delayed return: After 60 minutes, a €100 fee will be charged for each additional hour.

Flat-rate costs for failure to clean or maintain the van upon return:

Art. 5 – How to use the van

The van is intended exclusively for tourism and recreational use. The following are not permitted:

Carrying passengers for profit
Participating in competitions or races
Towing other vehicles or trailers without written authorization
Subleasing or transferring the van to third parties

Written authorization and additional insurance coverage are required for driving abroad. Contact us before departure.

From November 15th to April 15th, snow chains or winter tires are required.

Driving while intoxicated or under the influence of drugs is prohibited. The driver is responsible for complying with the Highway Code and weight and height restrictions.

Art. 6 – Who can drive

The primary driver must be:

At least 23 years old
A valid driving license for at least 24 months

Any additional driver must be indicated in the contract before departure. Unregistered drivers are not permitted.

Art. 7 – Insurance

The rental includes the following coverage:

Complete liability insurance
24-hour roadside assistance for breakdowns not attributable to the driver
Driver accident insurance

Damage to the roof, underbody, interior, glass, and accessories is not covered, nor is damage caused directly by the driver through negligence or improper use.

Art. 8 – Accidents, thefts and breakdowns

In the event of an accident, theft, vandalism, or breakdown, you must:

Contact us within 24 hours
Complete the CAI (Friendly Accident Report) form
Do not abandon the vehicle without notifying us.

We will do our best to provide a replacement vehicle, subject to fleet availability. Any transportation costs are the responsibility of the driver, unless additional coverage is in place.

Art. 9 – Ordinary maintenance

During the rental period, the driver is responsible for routine checks:

Oil, water, and windshield washer fluid levels
Tire pressure

In the event of a puncture or light bulb replacement, the costs are the responsibility of the driver (unless otherwise specified). The lessor may inspect the vehicle with 48 hours’ notice.

Art. 10 – Kilometers, cleanliness and equipment

100 km per day is included. Each additional kilometer is charged at €0.20/km.

Summary of penalties for damage, loss, and extraordinary cleaning:

Art. 11 – Fines, tolls and restricted traffic zones

All traffic violations, highway tolls, and parking fees are the responsibility of the driver.

For each fine or report notified to the lessor, an administrative fee of €10 will be charged (in addition to the fine). Payment can be automatically charged to the card provided.

Beware of restricted traffic zones (ZTL) in Puglia’s historic centers: always check the signs before entering.

Art. 12 – Cancellation and withdrawal

Our cancellation policy is as follows:

If you decide to return early after picking up the van, the fee remains due for the entire booked period.

Art. 13 – Failure to return

If the van is not returned within 24 hours of the expiration date without notification, we reserve the right to file a complaint for misappropriation (Article 646 of the Italian Criminal Code) and to request compensation for all resulting damages.

Art. 14 – Objects forgotten on board

VanLife Puglia is not responsible for items left on board. If we find anything, we will keep it for 30 days and contact you. After this period, the items will be considered abandoned.

Art. 15 – Privacy (EU Reg. 2016/679 – GDPR)

Your personal data is processed exclusively for the management of the rental agreement and retained for the time strictly necessary to comply with legal obligations. The complete information is available upon request or attached to the agreement.

Art. 16 – Applicable law and competent court

The contract is governed by Italian law. The exclusive jurisdiction is that of Bari, unless otherwise specified for consumers.

Art. 17 – Specific approval of the clauses

Pursuant to Articles 1341 and 1342 of the Italian Civil Code, the Tenant declares to have read and expressly approve the following clauses: Articles 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 10, 11, 12, and 13.
